Who We Are
A joyful multicultural family taking a selfie outdoors in a lush garden setting.

The African American Family Resiliency Association (AAFRA) began as a grassroots organization with a mission to address disproportionate outcomes faced by families of African descent within the child welfare system. Since its inception, AAFRA has worked tirelessly to reduce out-of-home placements for children by engaging with families currently within the system or at risk of entering it.

As a nonprofit organization, we are committed to providing culturally competent, trauma-informed programs that empower families to navigate the system effectively and build resilience. By fostering a sense of belonging and community strength, we strive to create stable environments where families can thrive.

About Us

The African American Family Resiliency Association was founded to combat the disproportionate outcomes experienced by families of African descent within the child welfare system. Initially established as a grassroots effort, AAFRA focused on reducing the rate of out-of-home placements for children by connecting with families both within the system and those at risk of entering it.

As a nonprofit, we have developed culturally competent, trauma-informed models designed to support families in navigating the complexities of the system. These programs aim to build resilience and stability while fostering a sense of belonging and strengthening community ties. AAFRA remains committed to empowering families and creating environments where they can thrive.
